-Completed M.Ed. with a focus on literacy as social justice. Thesis: What Makes Avid Writers? http://hdl.handle.net/1993/32030
- Continue reading and attending conferences to keep current with the latest research
- Meet with feeder schools and PTSD K-8 Literacy consultant to coordinate paractices
- Work with admin team and other committees to develop school wide strategies and structures to facilitate
literacy instruction and practice throughout the school and foster a literacy-rich school climate
As a school-level planner...
- Write monthly newsletter to share literacy initiative and ideas
- Participate in the PTSD Literacy Committee
- Administer Fountas and Pinnell testing to determine literacy levels of new students in August / September and as they arrive throughout the year
- Determine needs regarding student literacy challenges
- Work with Literacy Committee to plan and deliver PD sessions, deliver sessions to staff
- Attend meetings re student concerns (at-risk, etc.)
- Coordinate literacy lab groups and peer coaching models
- Assist content area teachers in finding additional resources (e.g. levelled texts)
- Organize staff registration at conferences
As a coach...
- work with a team to pilot and implement Reading is Thinking courses
- work with students to publish a yearly literary journal of student work
- Work with staff to introduce literacy strategies in the classroom, including:
- developing unit/lesson plans
- providing mini-lessons/modelling
- helping with student conferencing/ writing workshops
- facilitating book clubs
